Description: For data to be beneficial to students and our field, it must be understood and used to inspire positive action. Education data is frequently misunderstood when stakeholders use it to inform decisions that impact students, and even data that is understood often fails to move an audience to action. Fortunately, there are straightforward ways in which our field’s state of data use can be improved. This keynote will arm attendees with strategies to visualize data so it is easily and quickly understood by educators, parents, students, community members, media, policymakers, and other stakeholders. The presenter will arm attendees with free resources and demonstrate how to humanize data with stories to engage data viewers and make them likely to care, remember, and act on the data they see. Through an interactive and lively keynote that weaves storytelling throughout, attendees will be inspired and primed to bring their own data to life for anyone in the field.
