Description: Teacher burnout is 50% higher (affecting 20% of teachers) at schools where traditionally underserved populations are concentrated. While teacher burnout hurts teachers, high teacher turnover rates also rob students of stable adult relationships, hurt student achievement, and are especially damaging in high need neighborhoods when they erode trust between teachers and students. When writing her recent book on how to avoid and recover from teacher burnout, this session’s presenter (a) identified the biggest burnout triggers and (b) identified solutions to preventing burnout and promoting recovery. The presenter will share her findings and research-based strategies for preventing teacher burnout.
