Title: Revolutionize Data Reporting to Revolutionize Data Use
Description: When educators use data, such as that reported via a data system, the manner in which data is communicated has a significant impact on educators’ understanding and use of the data. Even in districts known to be exemplars of data use, educators are no more than 48% accurate when interpreting data (U.S. Department of Education Office of Planning, Evaluation and Policy Development, 2009, 2011). This presentation shows specifically how reporting tools can be modified and supplemented to help – rather than hurt – educators’ understanding of data, and can thus better help students affected by data-informed decisions. A straightforward approach to making data “over-the-counter” (i.e., easy to understand and use) for educators is shared. This includes the researcher’s own quantitative study findings, which will be shared along with templates, standards, and other tools to assist attendees.
